Hi Tamara,
Could you send this out to the groups?
Thanks,
Kim
Hello All,
I just spent an evening volunteering at Nicholas House, the shelter for formerly homeless families on Boulevard and Delmar. While is it nice to know that Nicholas House provides a home for so many children, I could not help reflecting on how bleak these kids' days are--each family lives in a single room with very little to do in the way of constructive activities, and many of them had to leave their homes with not much more than the clothes on their backs. When I think of the number of games and books my kids can burn through in an hour I really feel for the parents who have to keep their kids happy under such circumstances. There is an activity room, but it is locked except during specific times.
I have collected some books to give to the kids personally, rather than to the institution. They would also benefit from things like puzzles, Play-Doh, and art supplies. I plan to deliver the things I have collected July 4; if anyone has books, clothes, toys, etc. that they would like to contribute, please shoot me an e-mail and I will be happy to come by and pick them up (you are also welcome to leave them on my porch, 589 Cameron St).
Thanks!
Kim
