Hi Ellen,
One more thing to consider for this weekend (could you send this to the group, please?) Kevin attended a meeting yesterday where APD officers said they would be out in force all weekend, and he offered to leave a cooler of drinks on our porch for them to come help themselves to. They will be patrolling largely on foot, wearing body armor, which is no doubt very hot. A great way to support the police, and to keep them in the vicinity of your house (always nice with 50,000 strangers wandering around the hood), is to make the same offer.
If you are willing to leave a cooler full of water, Gatorade, etc., on your porch for police, please e-mail Adam Lee, the Leiutenant in
charge of non-park Zone 3 security for the weekend, at alee@atlantaga.gov. Lt. Lee will need your address so he can tell his officers which houses will have drinks available. My kids are actually quite excited about this; Molly has made a sign that says, "we love
you Zone 3 police," and we are going to leave it on the cooler.
